I don’t have a tooth ache, do I still need to see the dentist?

You may feel fine, but preventing cavities means regular check ups and cleanings. If you don’t catch a cavity when it is small it may result in a root canal or tooth loss later. Visit your dentist regularly to keep a beautiful and healthy smile.

  • Brush and floss twice a day
  • Avoid sugary foods and tobacco products
  • Brush your tongue and use mouth wash
  • Be sure to visit your dentist every six months

At what age do you take a child to the dentist for the first time?

Children should have their first dental checkup between the age of 6 months and one year.

What is a cavity?

A cavity is a small hole that forms in a tooth because of decay. Brushing and flossing twice a day combined with regular dental check ups can prevent cavities. If left untreated it can lead to tooth loss and infection.

What are fillings?

A filling is a material used to fill a cavity after the decay has been removed. There are many types of fillings today and your dentist can likely match the color of your tooth for a cosmetically sound look.

How often should I change my toothbrush?

You should change your toothbrush every 1 to 3 months depending on how quickly the bristles wear out. Electric toothbrushes normally come with instructions on how often to change them. If you have been sick then change your toothbrush as soon as possible.

If I have braces how often do I need a checkup?

Every six months at the least, braces can cause food particles to get stuck where your toothbrush can’t reach. Your dentist and orthodontist should work closely together to be sure your teeth stay clean while you have your braces.
